Topic: Common User Profile for Personalization

Speaker: Dr. Pradipta Biswas


I am an Assistant Professor at the Centre for Product Design and Manufacturing and associate faculty at the Robert Bosch Centre for Cyber Physical Systems of Indian Institute of Science I am a Co-Chair of the IRG AVA and Focus Group on Smart TV at International Telecommunication Union I am a member of the UKRI International Development Peer Review College Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) and was a professional member of the Society of Flight Test Engineers British Computer Society, Associate Fellow at the UK Higher Education Academy and Royal Society of Medicine

My research focuses on user modelling and multimodal human-machine interaction for aviation and automotive environments and for assistive technology. I set up and lead the Interaction Design (I3D) Lab. My research won Microsoft’s AI 4 Accessibility Grant Award, Facebook’s Responsible AR/VR Award and research grants from British Telecom (on AR/VR Systems), Faurecia Groupe Services Ltd. (on Automotive UI), Wipro Ltd (On Autonomous Vehicle), Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), Departments of Science & Technology (DST) and BioTechnology (DBT). My research was featured in New Scientist, NDTV, All India Radio and various other media outlets.

Earlier, I was a Senior Research Associate at Engineering Department, Research Fellow at Wolfson College and Research Associate at Trinity Hall of University of Cambridge. I completed PhD in Computer Science at the Rainbow Group of University of Cambridge Computer Laboratory and Trinity College in 2010 and was awarded a Gates-Cambridge Scholarship in 2006. I undertook a first degree in Information Technology at the University of Kalyani and a master degree at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur.

I conducted courses on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning at National Institute of Fashion Technology, Automotive User Interface and AR/VR systems at Ashok Leyland, Multimodal Interaction at Honeywell, Human Computer Interaction at Indian Institute of Technology, Mandi, Assistive Technology at Indian Institute of Technology, Madras.

Besides academics, I am a keen rifle shooter and won gold medals in Imperial Shooting Meet from 2010 to 2017. I was the Senior Treasurer of Cambridge University Revolver and Pistol club, captain of Wolfson College Cricket Club, Trinity College graduate cricket team and secretary of the Engineering Department cricket team.

Mr. Rajesh Bansal

Mr. Rajesh Bansal is Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Reserve Bank Innovation Hub (RBIH) as appointed by the RBIH Board.

A highly regarded thought leader in the areas of digital financial services and digital infrastructure, Mr. Bansal has nearly three decades of global experience in designing digital IDs, electronic payment products and cash transfers, to enable inclusive development in multiple Asian and African markets. Prior to joining RBIH, he was senior adviser at Carnegie India, where he led the centre’s Technology and Society programme.

Mr. Bansal has previously served at the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in various capacities, including in areas of technology, payment systems, and financial inclusion. He is one of the key architects of India’s journey from a cash to cash-lite by actively promoting policies, strengthening institutions, governance framework, and designing new products and solutions for scale and adoption. Mr. Bansal was a member of the founding team of Aadhaar and specifically led the design of India’s Direct Benefits Transfer system which is benefiting hundreds of millions of low income clients. He also played a key role in creating India Stack, a digital ID-based infrastructure for a presence less and cashless service delivery platform in India. He has been a member of a number of committees of the Government of India and the RBI.

Mr. Bansal is a frequent speaker, moderator and panellist on financial innovation and inclusion in academic circles, conferences and fintech festivals nationally and internationally. He has authored a number of articles and opinion pieces in leading publications ranging from The Economic Times to The Print. A recipient of the prestigious Golden Jubilee scholarship scheme of the RBI, Mr. Bansal holds a Master’s degree from Duke University in International Development Policy, USA.

Dr. Sudhir Dixit

Sudhir Dixit is a Co-Founder at the Basic Internet Foundation in Oslo, Norway, and heads its US operations. He is also associated with the Academy of Finland 6G Flagship Programme and Wireless World Research Forum. He is also actively engaged with the IEEE Future Networks Initiative and, in addition to other roles, he is a Co-Chair of the Connecting the Unconnected Working Group.  From 2015 to 2017 he was the CEO and Co-Founder of a start-up, Skydoot, Inc. From 2009 to 2015, he was a Distinguished Chief Technologist and CTO of the Communications and Media Services for the Americas Region of Hewlett-Packard Enterprise Services in Palo Alto, CA, and the Director of Hewlett-Packard Labs India in Palo Alto and Bangalore. Before joining HP, he was with BlackBerry, Nokia, NSN and Verizon Communications.

Sudhir has published eight books and holds 21 patents. Sudhir holds a Ph.D. from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, U.K., an M.B.A. from the Florida Institute of Technology, Melbourne, Florida, M.E from BITS, Pilani and B.E. from MANIT Bhopal. He is a Life Fellow of the IEEE. IETE and IET.

Dr. Radhakrishna Ganti

Dr. Radhakrishna Ganti is an Associate Professor at IITMadras. He was Postdoctoral researcher in Wireless Networking and Communications Group at UT Austin from 2009-11. He received his B.Tech and M.Tech in EE from IITMadras and Masters in Applied Mathematics and Ph.D. in EE from the University of Notre Dame in 2009.

His doctoral work focused on spatial analysis of interference networks using tools from stochastic geometry. He is a co-author of monograph Interference in Large Wireless Networks (NOW Publishers, 2008). He received the 2014 IEEE Stephen O.Rice Prize, and the 2014 IEEE Leonard G.Abraham Prize and the 2015 IEEE Communications society young author best paper award. He was also awarded the 2016-17 Institute Research and Development Award (IRDA) by IITMadras.

R. K. Pathak

Shri R. K. Pathak has done his B.E. Hons. (Electrical) and M Tech (Power Electronics). He has more than 33 years of experience in different disciplines including entrepreneurship, standardization and promotion, development of manufacturing of telecom equipment and investment promotions.

He is nodal officer for implementation of 5G technology. Presently he is Deputy Director General (International Cooperation) in Department of Telecom and looking after work related to WTO, economic cooperation agreements, standardization, promotion of telecom exports and Telecom Centre of Excellences, India (TCOE India). He has additional responsibility as Secretary, TEPC and also Director, TCOE India.

Dr. Sai Dhiraj Amuru

Dr. Sai Dhiraj Amuru is a Principal Research Engineer with WiSig Networks, an IITH incubated startup and an Adjunct Assistant Professor at IIT Hyderabad. He received the B.Tech. degree in electrical engineering from IIT Madras in 2009. From 2009 to 2011, he was with Qualcomm, India, as an Associate Engineer. He then received the Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Virginia Tech in Sept. 2015. From 2016-2018, he was with Samsung R&D Institute, Bangalore where he represented Samsung in the 3GPP RAN1 meetings for the 5G NR Layer-1 standardization. At Samsung, he was awarded the IP Innovator of the year 2017 for creating most valuable and highest number of patents in the year 2017. Currently he represents IITH at 3GPP meetings and designs physical layer algorithms for 4G, 5G systems at WiSig Networks.

P. Charumati

Ms. Charumati is working as a GROUP LEADER at C-DOT Bangalore. She holds Masters in Computer Application from Punjab University Chandigarh and is Certified Project Management Professional (PMP). She has 21+ years of experience on design and development of IN Network, 2G & 2.5G network, 4G eNodeB for femto and macro networks, WiF5 and WiFi6 based access networks. 

Currently, she is co-ordinating Wi-Fi and PM-WANI Program at C-DOT.


S. Rengarajan

S. Rengarajan is retired General Manager (IT and Digital Banking), Indian Bank. Out of 40 years of his experience in Indian Bank till May 2020, he handled IT for about 20 years. He is currently engaged with Institute for Development and Research in Banking Technology (IDRBT) as Senior Domain Expert. Also, he is Member- Technical Advisory Committee, IFTAS and Member- National Expert Committee on BFSI of Indian Chamber of Commerce, Kolkata.
