ABOUT Gandhinagar
Gandhinagar is the capital city of Gujarat. It ranks amongst the major cities of Gujarat like Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat and Rajkot. The city is located approximately 23 kilometers north of Ahmedabad. It lies on the western bank of River Sabarmati which flows at a distance of 464 kilometers from Mumbai.
Gandhinagar is popular for its tourist attractions. Being the capital city, it attracts a large number of tourists every year. The tourist places include Hanuman Temple, Swaminarayan Temple, Akshardham Temple, Adalaj Step Well, Science City, Sabarmati Ashram, various multiplexes, Children’s Park, Sarita Udyan, Deer Park and Craftsmen Village. IIT Gandhinagar was founded in 2008 and is located in Palaj, Gandhinagar, Gujarat on the banks of river Sabarmati. IITGN is rated India’s first 5-star GRIHA LD (Green) campus for minimizing the negative impact on the environment. The campus has been declared India’s first 5-star campus for ensuring food safety and promoting healthy eating.
The IITGn campus is about 21 km from the Airport (a 25-30 minutes journey), and about 16 km and 28 km from the Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad Railway Stations, respectively. The leading cab services OLA and UBER operate to and fro between the IITGn campus and Airport/Railway Stations, and around the twin cities. Ahmedabad is India’s first World Heritage City formally accorded by UNESCO, and the twin cities are home to a lot of historical as well as modern tourist attractions.
The Institute follows the highest standards of safety for its employees engaged in construction activities. The Academic Blocks of IITGn have a number of big and small digital classrooms, roof theatres, and auditoriums including the Jasubhai Memorial Auditorium of ~600 capacity having left-hander friendly furniture. The Open Theatre ‘Rangmanch’ at IITGn has a capacity of 2000. The whole IITGn campus is wheelchair friendly with well-placed signages along with the landmark ‘Lal Minar’, which is a 100-feet tower building located around the academic block and can be recognized from all parts of the 400 acres campus to spot the academic area. IITGn has well-equipped on-campus Guest House and Hostels with air-conditioning, wi-fi, and dining facilities that can accommodate more than 2500 guests and students. Furthermore, the presence of leading hotel chains like Grand Mercure, Novotel, Hilton, Hyatt, Radisson Blu, Marriott, and others in the twin cities make it convenient for the participants to plan their stay.
